It has never been easier to produce a book, but faster certainly doesn’t mean better. Before you start writing, you need to understand what your book will add to an already crowded marketplace. That means researching competing titles, identifying your ideal reader and getting crystal clear about your unique knowledge, stories, experiences and perspective. Without this work, you risk creating what I call a “beige book” – something perfectly presentable that says very little new and does nothing meaningful for your brand or business.
If you want your book to build authority, attract quality clients and create extraordinary opportunities, the commercial thinking must begin long before Chapter One. Push yourself to uncover your strongest ideas, models, frameworks and intellectual property, then shape them into a body of work that could only have come from you. In the video below, I explain why doing the hard work upfront is what gives you the foundation to write a genuinely world-class book.
