Writing a Book is a Game Changer for Business. This year marks my 25th anniversary as an author—yes, it’s been a quarter of a century since my first book, 101 Ways to Market Your Business, was published by Allen & Unwin. Reflecting on this milestone 25 Years and 14 Books later, I still believe wholeheartedly in the power of writing a book, and here’s why.
The Life-Changing Power of That First Book
Back when I wrote my first book, I was running a small marketing company in Cairns. I didn’t have formal qualifications, and I wasn’t claiming any special skills. But I did know how to deliver practical, no-nonsense marketing advice that worked for small business owners. My book captured those insights, and from there, everything changed.
Writing that book gave me a profile. I was invited by Telstra to speak across 30 cities in Australia, and I continued to grow my brand and reach. Today, everything I am and do is rooted in that first book. The opportunities that have come from my writing journey are countless—from speaking in places like Iran, working with people like Richard Branson, to teaching over 1,000 people how to write their first book. It all started with taking that leap and writing my own.
But Do Books Still Matter in a Digital World?
Now, in a world brimming with tech, AI, and endless digital content, some people wonder if books still hold the same power. My answer? Absolutely. If you write a world-class book—one that addresses real problems, is crafted from your unique experiences, and is packed with genuine insights—that book will stand out. It becomes a powerful tool for business growth, brand building, and personal impact.
In fact, I’m currently working with more aspiring authors than ever, all keen to create books that build their brand, elevate their profile, and make a difference. The mechanisms may have changed—more tools, more distribution channels, more ways to share knowledge—but the core of what makes a book valuable remains the same.
The Key to Success: Write a Book That’s Uniquely You
If you’re considering writing a book, here’s my best advice: write an exceptional one. Don’t just compile a series of AI-generated prompts. Create something that truly captures your unique perspective. Think about it—no one else has your exact set of experiences, insights, triumphs, and challenges. That individuality is what makes your story worth sharing and your book worth reading.
So, 25 years and 14 bestselling books later, do I still think writing a book is a great idea? More than ever. The tools have improved, the distribution channels have expanded, and in some ways, it’s easier now than it’s ever been to share your message with the world.
Final Thoughts: Write, Publish, and Leverage Your Book
If you’re ready to take the leap, go for it. Write a book that truly reflects your journey, your experiences, and your wisdom. Capture your story, publish it, and leverage it as a cornerstone of your brand. I’ll be sharing more insights on this journey in the future, but for now—grab that pen or keyboard and get started.
Cheers,
Andrew Griffiths
