Package 6 – High Level Strategic Manuscript Review and Assessment

A professional manuscript review for nonfiction authors who want to publish a stronger, smarter and more commercially valuable book.

Writing a manuscript is a major achievement. Getting to the end of a draft takes commitment, courage and a huge amount of work. But finishing the manuscript does not always mean the book is ready.

In fact, this is often the point where the biggest questions begin.

  • Is the core idea strong enough?
  • Is the structure working?
  • Does the writing engage the reader?
  • Does the book sound like you?
  • Will it create the impact, authority and opportunities you want it to create?
  • And most importantly, are you about to move too quickly into publishing before the manuscript is truly ready?

THIS IS WHERE THIS REVIEW COMES INTO ITS OWN

My High Level Strategic Manuscript Review and Assessment is designed for nonfiction authors who want experienced, honest and commercially grounded feedback before they move into the next stage of publishing. This is not a line edit. It is not a proofread. It is a strategic, high-level assessment of your manuscript as a complete book.

I look at how well your manuscript is working, what may be weakening it, and what needs to happen to make it stronger, more engaging, more effective and more aligned with your bigger professional goals.

This is the kind of review that can save you from publishing too soon, spending money in the wrong places, or putting a book into the world that is good, but not nearly as strong as it could be.

WHY THIS REVIEW MATTERS?

By the time you finish a manuscript, you are usually far too close to it to assess it clearly.

  • You know what you meant to say.
  • You know the stories behind the stories.
  • You know what sits in the gaps.

But the reader does not.

A strategic manuscript review gives you something incredibly valuable, perspective. It helps you step back and see the manuscript for what it really is, not just what you hope it is. It shows you where the book is strong, where it is underperforming, and where there is real opportunity to improve it before you invest more time, energy and money into editing, design, printing or marketing.

A good manuscript review is not about criticism for the sake of it. It is about making a good book better. It is about strengthening the work before it goes public. And for many authors, it becomes one of the wisest investments they make in the entire publishing process.

WHAT THIS REVIEW IS REALLY ABOUT.

This review goes beyond basic writing quality.

Yes, I assess the manuscript through the lens of readability, structure and flow. But I also assess it through the lens of positioning, differentiation, reader experience and commercial value.

That matters, especially if your book is meant to do more than simply sit on a shelf.

If your book is designed to build your profile, strengthen your credibility, attract clients, support speaking opportunities, open media doors or create broader commercial value, then it needs to be reviewed through that lens as well.

That is one of the things that makes this assessment different.

I am not just looking at whether the writing is technically sound. I am looking at whether the manuscript works as a book, whether it serves the intended reader, whether it supports your authority, and whether it is capable of doing the job you need it to do in the real world.

THE THINGS I ASSESS WITH YOUR MANUSCRIPT.

Your manuscript is reviewed across ten key areas:

1. Overall concept clarity

Is the central idea clear, compelling and strong enough to sustain a book?

2. Structure and flow

Is the manuscript organised in a logical, engaging and reader-friendly way?

3. Writing style and readability

Is the writing clear, consistent and easy to move through?

4. Author voice and authenticity

Does the manuscript sound like a real person with real authority, or does it feel generic or disconnected?

5. Target reader clarity and audience alignment

Is the book written for a clearly understood reader, and does it genuinely serve them?

6. Reader experience

What is it actually like to read the manuscript? Does it engage, build trust and hold attention?

7. Value and relevance of the content

Is the material useful, substantial and worth the reader’s time?

8. Positioning and differentiation

Does the manuscript help position you clearly and credibly in your field?

9. Subtle selling and commercial alignment

Does the book build trust and opportunity without becoming self-promotional?

10. Commercial potential

Does the manuscript have the foundations to become a valuable asset for your brand, business or body of work?

WHAT YOU RECEIVE.

This is a premium review process designed to give you both clarity and direction.

You will receive:

  • A full high-level review of one draft manuscript, up to an agreed word count.
  • A written strategic assessment report covering the ten key review areas.
  • Honest commentary on what is working well, what needs attention, and where the biggest improvement opportunities lie.
  • Clear recommendations to strengthen the manuscript and improve its effectiveness.
  • A summary of the manuscript’s positioning and commercial potential.
  • A follow-up consultation call with me to talk through the feedback and discuss the next steps.

For each of the ten review categories, I provide feedback in three parts:

What’s working

The strengths, assets and elements already doing their job well.

What needs attention

The issues, gaps or weaknesses that may be limiting the manuscript’s impact.

Recommendations for improvement

Practical, experience-based suggestions to strengthen the manuscript and make it more effective.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This review is ideal for nonfiction authors who have completed a draft manuscript and want professional, strategic feedback before moving further into the publishing process.

It is especially valuable if:

  • You are unsure whether the manuscript is as strong as it needs to be.
  • You want experienced feedback before paying for editing or design.
  • You are writing a book to support your brand, business or professional positioning.
  • You want the book to create trust, opportunities or commercial value, not just exist.
  • You know there is more potential in the manuscript, but you cannot clearly see what needs to change.
  • You want honest advice from someone who understands both the craft of writing and the business of authorship.

WHY AUTHORS INVEST IN THIS REVIEW?

By the time authors reach this stage, many are starting to question every extra cost. That is understandable. Publishing can become expensive, and by now you have already invested a great deal of time, effort and emotional energy.

But this is exactly the point where smart decisions matter most.

A strategic manuscript review can help you:

  • See the manuscript objectively.
  • Identify bigger issues before you spend money on editing, design or printing.
  • Create a stronger book, not just a finished one.
  • Improve the reader experience for your audience.
  • Strengthen the commercial value of the book.
  • Avoid false economy by fixing the right problems first.
  • Move forward with greater confidence.
  • Protect the investment you have already made.
  • Give your book a far better chance of doing the job you need it to do.

This is not just another publishing expense. In many cases, it is the difference between publishing a book that is average and publishing a book that is genuinely effective.

MY PERSPECTIVE

I approach this review as both a writer and a commercial author. I understand what it takes to create a readable, engaging, credible book. I also understand what it takes for a book to work in the marketplace, support your positioning, and create meaningful opportunities beyond the page.

That perspective matters.

Friends, family and early readers can give you opinions. Editors can improve the writing. But this review is designed to help you step back and see the manuscript as a whole, strategically, commercially and from the reader’s point of view. It’s honest, practical and designed to make your book better in every way.

YOUR INVESTMENT?

The investment for this High Level Strategic Manuscript Review and Assessment is $3,300 inc GST.

I conduct this review personally and generally require around 10 days from commencement to delivery of the final report, plus a follow-up consultation call to discuss the findings and recommendations.

I usually need around two weeks’ notice to schedule a review, although this can sometimes be adjusted depending on the urgency of your project.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Publishing a book is a significant step. It deserves more than guesswork. It deserves more than hope. And it certainly deserves more than rushing ahead simply because you are tired and ready to be done.

This review is about helping you pause, assess wisely and strengthen what needs strengthening before the book goes out into the world.

Sometimes the difference between a decent book and a genuinely effective one is not another year of work. It is clear, experienced feedback at exactly the right moment.

If you want to publish with more confidence, more clarity and a much stronger manuscript behind you, this review will help you do exactly that.
